WHAT THE PRESS SAY!
Grantham Journal Friday 2nd July 2009
Nicky Turner, a breast care nurse at Grantham Hospital, was a special guest and she talked to the group about breast health.
She was joined by shop assistants from lingerie shop Jenny Wren, in The George Centre, who measured the women's correct bra sizes.
Club vice president Linda Voller said: "There were lots of entries in the decorate a bra competition and some fabulous efforts, ranging from a DD cup cake bra with real cup cakes, to Phantom of the Op-bra, Hawaiian holiday and booby bird.
"The ladies paid £1 to enter their bras and all proceeds went to Breast Cancer Care, as well as the profits from selling bra shaped cookies.
"There was also a quiz about bras with prizes of an edible bra and also nipple tassles - members were not asked to model them, though."
The WI group aims to transform the perception of WI, and women of all ages are encouraged to sign up.
Linda said: "Unfortunately the WI currently has a very bad image with regards to age and we are endeavouring to change that.
"With this sort of themed event, who could resist us?"r

Fun-loving pair is giving WI a new image
Testament to that is their next event - a booby night mysteriously described as a night of education and fun.
President Debbie said: "We started the group as a way to make friends, because neither of us are from Grantham.
"We have a laugh and lots of fun, and we organise activities which are set aside from the norm."
Vice president Linda added: "Most people think of WI members as women in their 80s, whereas our youngest member is 22, our eldest is in her 70s and most of us are in our 30s and 40s.
"We're aiming to create the biggest WI group in Lincolnshire - we have 56 members now but we're aiming for 80."
The pair have even taken to wearing name badges around town, not only to drum up more support and increase membership, but also out of pride.
The Grantham DIY WI has become so hugely popular that Debbie and Linda have had to move from Manthorpe Village Hall to larger premises at the Grantham Christian Fellowship Church Hall, in Belton Avenue.
The booby night will take place in the church hall on Tuesday, June 30, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.

'The group held its second meeting at Manthorpe Village Hall last month with a demonstration of chocolate.
"Choklet" brought a selection of chocolate in al shapes and sizes and there was a quiz entitled Sweets and Chocolate which was won by Pat Covell and Sue Inman.
At the next meeting the demonstration will be silver jewellery, with members able to make and purchase a pair of earrings for a small sum. This meeting will be at Manthorpe Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 28th April.
The group needs a bigger venue for its meetings. If you can help, or want to join, contact DIY WI through the website www.granthamdiywi.org'

"New-style WI promises fun for the modern woman"
"A new group which promises to offer new and inspiring experiences and fun and lively events for the modern woman will form in Grantham next week.
Grantham DIY WI encourages women to forget Jam and Jerusalem and throw off the traditional image of WIs.
The driving forces behind the new group are president Debbie Young and Linda Voller, who wanted to set up a group which appeals to the modern woman.
It replaces the original Grantham WI group which folded four years ago due to lack of volunteers to sit on the committee.
Grantham DIY WI promises an exciting and relevant calendar of events for their monthly meetings, with jewellery making, a chocolate night and a beach party already booked in.
The group will meet for the first time at Manthorpe Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday and all women are invited to go along to enjoy pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
Following that they will meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month."
